What we explore

What we explore

  • Unity editor, scenes and game objects
  • C# variables, conditions, loops and methods
  • Movement, collisions, physics and game logic
  • Interfaces, animation and building a playable game

Possible learning projects

  • A 2D game with character movement, obstacles and a score
  • A 3D scene with controls and object interaction

These are examples of possible tasks. Difficulty and pace depend on the student’s experience and interests.

A clear process

How we learn

Each lesson connects a small idea with something the student can run, see or change.

  1. 01

We discuss interests and explore example projects. Start from scratch or bring a game you are already making.

  2. 02

We begin with something manageable, such as a Flappy Bird-style game or walking around a 3D world. Complex games take time; we work through things step by step.

  3. 03

I explain the logic and help students experiment and debug. If their interests change, we can switch projects or directions.

Screenshot of Hockey Zombie 3D game created by student Maksym in Unity

UNITY

Hockey Zombie — Custom 3D Online Multiplayer Game

A real two-player online game: ice skating physics, hockey stick combat, zombies as pucks, and playing with friends online.

Maksym wanted to build more than just a practice project — he wanted an exciting action game he could actually play with friends online. Together we created a full hockey arena battle: dynamic ice skating physics, defending against zombie waves, and scoring goals by launching zombies into the opponent's net.

Maksym

Goal
Build an original game from scratch and play it online with friends.
Starting level
Basic programming curiosity and computer skills, with a dream to build a real multiplayer 3D game.
What was created
A playable two-player 3D action game: character customization, ice skating, zombie rivals, helper bots, and a live scoreboard.
Student's work
Designed the arena and player visuals, set up skating and shooting animations, built the main menu, uniform store, and dash mechanics.
Teacher's help
Engineered smooth online connectivity between players, optimized performance, and built a dedicated testing arena to fine-tune game balance.
Skills
  • 3D game development in Unity
  • Multiplayer programming (connecting players online)
  • Character movement physics & ice friction
  • Smooth character animation setup
  • Game UI & menu design
  • Debugging and testing skills
Evidence
A fully working game that the student regularly plays with friends and the teacher online.

UNITY

Hello Neighbour — 3D Mystery Adventure with Smart AI

One-year achievement: a full two-story house, item inventory, key puzzles, and a clever Neighbour who reacts to sounds and tracks the player.

Dania is a huge fan of Hello Neighbor and dreamed of making his own version of the game. Over a year of weekly lessons, he advanced from simple basics to an impressive 3D experience featuring an explorable house, cinematic intro cutscene, interactive doors, ladders, and a reactive neighbour searching the rooms.

Dania

Goal
Understand how real 3D games are built and create an atmospheric mystery game with house exploration.
Starting level
Complete beginner with zero coding background, fueled by huge enthusiasm for his favorite game.
What was created
First-person 3D game: fully authored house, smart AI opponent, 5-item inventory, key-hunting quest, and cinematic intro cutscene.
Student's work
Designed the house architecture and interior, coded the item inventory, object pickup & throw mechanics, character animations, and directed the cinematic intro scene.
Teacher's help
Guided the AI logic so the Neighbour can explore rooms, open doors naturally, and react to player footsteps, while implementing a reliable lock-and-key quest system.
Skills
  • Core C# programming fundamentals in Unity
  • Designing AI behavior for game opponents
  • Item inventory and physical object interactions
  • 3D spatial design, lighting, and camera control
  • Directing cinematic cutscenes and storytelling
  • Long-term project discipline (over a year of development)
Evidence
A living 3D game with over a hundred versioned milestones that can be explored and played directly.

Sivochka Ihor

I am a teacher and game developer. I have played games since childhood and have been learning and working with Unity since 2020. I enjoy creating games and helping others bring their ideas to life.

I began tutoring mathematics in my first year at a pedagogical university. Later I worked at a STEM school and gradually moved to online lessons during the pandemic. Today I teach at a school in Kharkiv and tutor children and teenagers online.

I want students to discover what they enjoy creating. Game development becomes a hobby for some and a future career for others. Some discover that they would rather explore a different field. I consider that a valuable outcome too.

Reviews from BUKI and the Ukrainian Tutors Association, in their original language.

Questions

Before starting

A few practical details parents and students often ask about.

Can I start Unity without knowing C#?

Yes. We begin with the editor and simple game actions, then introduce C# variables, conditions, loops and methods through the project. The aim is to understand the code, not just run it.

Can I bring an existing game?

Yes. We look at the project and choose a manageable next step. Complex games take time, so I do not promise completion in a fixed number of lessons.

Can students join from abroad?

Yes, lessons are online. Include your country or time zone and preferred times in your message.

What computer is needed?

A computer or laptop with Zoom, screen sharing and the software for the chosen subject. A computer or tablet with Scratch, Zoom and screen sharing.

How do I enquire?

Message @Figarist on Telegram with the student’s age, subject, experience and preferred times. I will reply about availability.

How do I pay for lessons?

Payment to a sole proprietor account in hryvnias and foreign currency.
